If you took a glance at the previous post I left by this name, you got a glimpse at my “Kundalini Yoga Dream Team!” This was built around some of the amazing teachers and practices within Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan. That is the lineage in which I have studied and practiced…but is there more “out there”?
It’s an interesting thing to do to get on the internet and search for “Master of Kundalini Yoga.” Just for fun, I have spent many hours at my computer looking through the results that this search turned up. Yogi Bhajan’s take on Kundalini Yoga is by far the most well-known. I’d say that at least 90% of all the search results led back to him and his teachings…but there are also many other fascinating teachers and systems of Kundalini Yoga that aren’t as well-known.
Yogi Bhajan was heralded as a pioneer for starting to openly teach about kundalini in 1969, but really he was far from being the first to do so. Carl Jung gave a series of lectures on kundalini as early as 1932! (They are compiled into a neat little book called, “The Pscyhology of Kundalini Yoga.”) In reality, Yogi Bhajan was not the first or the only one to teach these things.
The following isn’t a complete list of “what’s out there,” but there are some very fascinating links to follow. I hope they stir something within you!

Nice posting. Do you know about these kundalini books?
http://www.YogaVidya.com/freepdfs.html
The only one of those books that I have actually read is the Gita, but yes, I am aware of them. I have read excerpts from them and seen them referenced from time to time…that is certainly some of the most time-tested, bedrock material for yoga practice.

And a little something else to add through a comment…
Just for fun, I was doing some searching online for info about Yogi Bhajan’s own teachers. The one that I already knew about (who is the one YB usually spoke of as “my teacher”) was a Sikh named Sant Hazara Singh. However, he had several others as well. I’ve found mention of one named Acharya Narinder Dev of Yoga Smriti, but I couldn’t find any further info on this person. I also read that he learned for a time at the Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh. Most interestingly to me, though, I found that he spent time learning from a famous yogi named Drindra Brahmachari. This yogi has at least two other students who are still prominent teachers today–Reinhard Gammenthaler and Vanessa Schmid. I believe that they both reside and teach in Switzerland. They both teach Kundalini Yoga as it came through Drindra Brahmachari, which seems to be distinct from how Yogi Bhajan presented it. You can check out Gammenthaler’s website at http://www.kundalini-yoga.ch/index.php?lang=english and Schmid’s at http://www.yoga-insel.ch/ (although Schmid’s does not seem to have an English version).
Sat Nam,
Jim
Here is another one that I was not aware of until just recently–Patanjali Kundalini Yoga Care. Looks like a cool organization! You can check them out online at http://kundalinicare.com/.
